1) Non Small Cell Lung Cancer

This is among the common types of lung cancer. Around 85 percent of the lung cancers are found as non small cell lung cancers. The squamous cell carcinoma, large cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma are the further sub types of the non small cell lung cancer.

2) Small Cell Lung Cancer

The small cell lung cancer can be known as an oat cell cancer. As per reports, 10 to 15 percent of lung cancers fall under small cell lung cancers. This kind of lung cancer simply tends to spread with great speed.

3) Lung Carcinoid Tumour

These are found in rare cases as only 5 percent of the lung cancer fall under this type or category of lung carcinoid tumours. These are also at times known as lung neuroendocrine tumours. A majority of these tumours are seen growing and even rarely found spreading as well.

  • Chemotherapy: This treatment option is often used in association with certain medication or other options like surgery. When certain cancer cells are unable to get rid from the patient’s body then with the help of this therapy the cells are removed. It is one of the best options to treat the small cell lung cancer. It can help in controlling and growing up the cancer and its growth, however, it can cure the lung cancers only in a small number of people. These are only used to treat cancers with advance stages of non small cell lung cancers.
  • Radiation: This treatment option employs high energy X rays in order to get rid or kill the cancer cells along with restricting the tumours. A majority of lung cancer radiation is often seen given externally, which simply means that the radiation is seen coming from the machine that lies outside the body. The process of radiation is generally used in combination with the surgery or both. However, this can be only used along with the surgery if not possible.
  • Surgery: It is often used as the most preferred treatment choice for patients known to have with early stage of non small cell lung cancer. Ironically, a majority of the patients with advance level disease are not often the right candidate for this surgery. This procedure is also known as cryosurgery wherein the entire lobe or complete lung is removes, however, the extent of this removal would more depend upon the tumour size and its location.
